JJ is one of the few that come to my area and I've travelled to see him too so I've seen him lots. If by chance you haven't checked JJ out with Southern Soul Assembly, I highly encourage it. Its a group of powerhouses that sit together on stage taking turns singing. Anders Osborne is one of my very favorite bands and he is one of the members of SSA.

All packed up and headed to camp....BUT....... I wanted to post this, which I just read, about the Southern Soul Assembly Tour that just finished up: www.elmoremagazine.com/2014/11/features/southern-soul-assembly-cookin-againMy brother and his friends are in negotiations with Greyhounds(JJ`s guitarist and keyboardists` other band) to hire them to play their local venue in Jan., Feb. or March outside Nashville. Looks like I`ll be southbound again. I had turned my brother on to them and he has turned all his musician friends on to them and now they want to hire them for a 2 night stand. Far Out ! www.greyhoundsmusic.com/Rick, Don`t forget to check them out at the Double Door this coming week. You won`t be disappointed......... Rick p.s.....I do the same thing to people to get them to see or buy music by Davy too !!! I have been independently promoting musicians for over 40 years now, if they deserve it........ I try to only promote musicians who are GREAT musicians AND GREAT people ! off through 23 degees to camp where they say it will hit 28 degrees later this afternoon.

I might just be able to check them out Wed night... GREYHOUNDS As Greyhounds, guitarist Andrew Trube and keyboardist Anthony Farrell have been making music and touring for 15 years, refining and developing a sound Trube calls “Hall and Oates meet ZZ Top. Anthony brings that LA thing and I bring the East Texas thing.” Ardent Music, the independent record label based out of legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, expects to build on the fanbase the band has developed both on the road and as a staple of the Austin music scene. Label director Reed Turchi says, “We committed to three albums not only because we believe in these guys, not only because they’re great musicians and songwriters, but because they’ve been incredibly prolific.” “We’re always writing,” Trube says. “We’ve got songs for eight albums.” The first ‘hounds out of the gate will be Accumulator, scheduled for a March 2014 release. “This is the re-introduction that never happened,” Trube says. The album will combine the cream-of-the-crop of tunes the band’s devoted followers pass along to the uninitiated with new, previously-unreleased tracks. An accumulation of the band’s past and present, with a nod to ZZ Top’s Eliminator, one of the most famous and commercially successful albums ever recorded at Ardent, Accumulator is also the first part of a sort of three-part wager well-known at the track. “The music business is a gamble,” Anthony Farrell says. “You got to keep playing to win. There have been lots of times we could have said ‘This is too hard,’ or ‘There’s no retirement plan. But basically you have to play your hand. And now Ardent has bet on us, and we’ve bet on them.” The first album will give new listeners “a little taste of the evolution of the band,” according to Farrell, and will be accompanied by a re-vamped stage show featuring more than just a new set list. The band’s respect for the past, and their roots in country, blues, rock and soul, will meet the present in the second Greyhounds album released by Ardent, which is set to feature all new songs, with more of an electronic aspect. Farrell explains, “You ingest all your experiences, and you try to make sense of them through your art. This second album will be a reflection of where we were at when we wrote those songs.” For the third record, the band anticipates more of a live sound. The duo say they’re excited to be recording in Memphis, with its rich musical heritage, and particularly at Ardent Studios, which combines that heritage with state-of-the-art equipment. When they aren’t touring and recording as Greyhounds, Trube and Farrell keep busy as members of JJ Grey and Mofro, playing 200 dates a year, and writing songs for a variety of other musicians, including Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks.

After talking to my brother, I`m not headed down for the Greyhounds show. I found out that they are playing at a place that routinely features several bands in one night for 3 to 5 songs each. Not worth the 750 mile drive and expense for a few songs.......if that is, in fact, how it will go down. If I was closer, I`d check it our FER SURE ! I just bought some more copies of their CD to give out at Christmas..........
However, I did just buy tickets to see JJ Grey & Mofro again at Mr. Smalls in late February, then we see NMA and Anders a week later about 12 miles away from this.

It`s on a Saturday night and is just 10 days later than the other date. que to Southbound Again>>>>>> www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rztpwexog30

My brother saw Gregg Allman and Friends last night at The Ryman in Nashville and Art Edmonstan(wrong spelling I know) was playing sax for him. I had wondered where he went. He had played for JJ Grey & Mofro up until 2014. Also Jack pearson guested on guitar for a few songs....... My brother sees the Greyhounds tonight outside Nashville and I head down next Wed. or Thursday to see them again on Saturday for $10 a ticket. They are staying 2 houses away from my brother`s house. My brother`s friend, Pete Cummings`s band will play Thursday night and possably open for Greyhounds on Saturday night. Pete was a guitar player for Elvis back in the day. Attachments:
