You make that look so easy Davy. Even though I don't play, that was certainly enjoyable

OOOO! I actually have a shot at this as I love playing about with a D! This was great Davy! Thank you! (I may even ruin my nails for this!)

Ah, hammer-ons and trills are a bit of a stretch but I might have a crack at it anyway, and like you Shari I'll have to sacrifice the nails hehe.

Thanks Davy. Much appreciated. I'll try to post some tabs. Please holler if there's anything wrong with them. BTW, I completely ruined my nails trying to figure this out! Alas! So the tuning is a drop D tuning (D A D G B E from low to high) with a capo in the 3rd fret (F C F Bb D G from low to high). This would be the first 3 chords. The chord names in parentheses are the chords you really hear because the capo makes everything 1 1/2 notes higher. Fret numbers relative to the capo. An "x" means "don't play this string (dampen it)". D (F) A7 (C7) G (Bb) G (Bb)
g ---2--------0---------x-------3------ d ---3--------2---------0-------0------ Bb ---2--------0---------0-------0------ F ---0--------2---------0-------0------ C ---0--------0---------x-------x------ F ---0--------x---------5-------5------The last chord is a variation of the G chord that is easier to strum. OK, no excuses now, Shari and Skippy!

The fingerpicking part for the first three chords might look like this:
D (F) D (F) D (F) A7 (C7) G (Bb)
g -----------0h2p0----|---------0h2p0----|--------------------|---------------------|-- d ---0h3--------------|---0h3------------|---3--------2-------|-----0------------0--|-- Bb --------0--------2--|---------------2--|------2----------0--|-----------0---------|-- F --------------------|---0--------------|---------------2----|-------0-------------|-- C --------------------|------------------|------------0-------|---------------------|-- F ---0----------------|------------------|---0----------------|---5------------5----|--and then backward again. When I listen to the album, the hammerings sound a bit more complicated than shown in the video...

Rusty I love you thanks for that. You're welcome, my dear. See, Davy - you may be the better guitar player, but I know what the ladies like.

Well I had a crack at it on Saturday and wasn't getting very far. Too much of a beginner. I will try to strum it rather than pick out the notes. I also have to confess to being a dumbo - tried to tune the 6th string down to a D from E on the guitar tuner and couldn't work out how to do it, at least the display gave me no hint of a D being anywhere close. Have to google that one! How is everyone else getting on? Rusty you must have nailed it by now let's see what you got

Rusty you must have nailed it by now let's see what you got Hey Skippy, I'm not good at tuning my guitar by ear but I find if you're looking for an octave then it's not that hard. So you could try it without a tuner and play the 6th string and the 4th string alternatingly. While you do that, you tune the 6th string down until it sounds like the 4th string, only one octave lower. Island Bound is certainly not an easy song to start finger picking as there is no constant sequence of the strings being picked. I'm not very good at finger picking, either. I can learn that stuff, but it takes me a lot of time getting it down fluently. Especially in that tempo! So I can't do a video that I could be content with ATM. It might also have something to do with the fact that in the last weeks, I've been spending a lot of time working on my "2nd career" as a blues harp player. And no, I'm not good enough at that either to post a vid. Haha!

Wow! Good work on the tabs, Rusty!
It is a little tricky to fingerpick, and to get it clean. Just listen to Tony McManus, I am long way off the fluidity and accuracy of what he does.

Rusty, I found an app (of course!) that would do the D tuning for me. I realised the tuner I had only did chromatic.
Now to practice......in a few years I should get it.
Oh and a video of the harp playing would be just fine thank you.

Thanks Davy. I dont have the right hand technique but watching and listening to you was very helpful. I always wanted to finger pick like that! Yes Tony is amazing but we all cant play like that as I am sure he cant play an electric like you can as well. McManus is a master of his craft. The times I saw him at PRS I was just amazed! But watching you brings it down to a level that I can least shoot for! Thanks again!

First of all HI! I am all new and was so happy to find out, that i can find here some help to play your songs Davy! So i started with Island Bound and with the video and rustys help i got to this: soundcloud.com/dirtandsmoke/davy-knowles-island-bound-riffSo i changed Rustys Tabs to that: ------------0h2p0------|--------- 0h2p0---------|-----------------------|------------------------|------------------ ---0h3-------------3---|---0h3-----------3------|---3---------2---------|----0------------0-----|-----------------0 ----------------------2-|--------------------2----|------2----------------|------------0-----------|---------0------- ---------0--------------|--------0----------------|----------------2------|----------0-------------|------0---------- ------------------------|--------------------------|-------------0---------|------------------------|------------------ ---0--------------------|---0---------------------|---0-------------------|----3s5--------5-------|--3s5----------5--
And the backwards with one bar playing around on the A7 and D. I hope that comes kinda close to the original pattern. So maybe this helps a little bit too! Thanks for this music Davy!
