I have several albums by S.R.V., but rarely listen to them. My favorite part of S.R.V. and Double Trouble was always Double Trouble>>>>>>>> an outstanding rhythm section ! I still seek out music involving Chris Layton on Drums and/or Tommy Shannon on Bass. Arc Angles......formed after Stevie`s death: Storyville....formed after Arc Angles: And then they joined Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band: Tommy is no longer a part of KWSB but still kicks it with `em once in a while. I have to be in the right angry/aggressive mood to get into S.R.V. & D.T. Here`s a few pictures of Chris Layton from a KWSB show a couple/few years ago:

Hi Monty, the two SRV albums that I have are In Step and Texas Flood. I really like them but it's not that SRV is favorite musician. I admire him a lot for his energetic guitar playing, though. Three tracks that I like on the Texas Flood album are Pride And Joy, Mary Had A Little Lamb and Testify. Rick, not only do the 3 bands you selected have SRV's rhythm group but they have also got some fantastic guitarists: Doyle Bramhall II, David Grissom and KWS.

YES....that is true.
It takes a great rhythm section though to properly showcase a great guitarist.
My son and I were hoping when Susan and Derek formed Tedeschi Trucks Band that they would ask Doyle to join as a 2nd(or would that be 3rd) guitarist. He used to play with them some as the Susan Tedeschi/Derek Trucks band before they formed TTB and also did some things with the Derek trucks Band too, and Susan Tedeschi Band. Clapton likes to add Doyle to his lineup on occasions too. Doyle really plays his guitar upside down !

Monty - if SRV doesn't grab you after the first listen he's probably just not your thing. I can't remember the first time I heard him as I would have been fairly young, but I do know that even now he grabs my ear from a single note.
As Rusty says, Texas Flood is probably "the" SRV album if you want to give him one more try...

I can relate to this ....no matter how many times I listen to SRV it never hooks me in the way say listening to Johnny Winter,Rory Gallagher or Gary Moore does. Since moving to the USA the subject of SRV crops up on a regular basis...any conversation about musical tastes usually includes the line " oh you like the blues ?...I like a bit of SRV myself" The look of bemusement is always amusing when I explain that SRV really doesn't float my boat and that Buddy Guy really is better ....

I just found this. 1 hour and 25 minutes of Albert King and SRV just jammin' like 2 masters of guitar. Enjoy
