RORY GALLAGHER BORN MARCH 2, 1948 WOULD HAVE BEEN 67 today if he had lived on For the last 6-8 days I`ve been chippin away at another Rory Gallagher official DVD package: Rory Gallagher/Rockpalast/3 DVD/2007 It is 3 DVS of 5 entire performances he and his band and even guests did at Rockpalast events: 1976....WDR Studio L Cologne 1977....Grugahalle, Essen 1979....Maifestspiele, Wiesbaden 1979....Maifestspiele, Wiesbaden......Jam Session 1982....Loreley 1982....Loreley.....Jam Session 1990....Live Music Hall, Cologne Some excellent footage and music from 5 different years and varied lineups of the Rory Gallagher Band. HOURS of enjoyment. Here you can see the Jam Session from 1982 when an uneasy Rory takes the stage with a bunch of over partied extras which Rory is noticably uncomfortable about, but slowly warms up to. How are you gonna say no and stop such a bombardment of your stage at an event where sooooo many people want to join you. Eventually you can see Rory smiling and laughing a bit. Eric Burdon must have been one loose cannon. I never saw him myself. Great playing by David Lindley and Claus "Major" Heuser. I really like this "major" guy`s playing. I know nothing about him, but need to check him out. Reminds me a bit of Jorma Kaukonen.....mostly looks wise as their picking is nothing similar. Several Years ago I talked to David Lindley about the night. He told me that after the show he sat up `til the sun arose with Rory playing , singing and drinking and what a wonderful night it was, and then we talked about all the friends we`ve lost to addictions and our own personal experiences: a very frank and friendly man: Another highlight from the 3 DVDs was Jack Bruce coming out for 3 songs with Rory`s band. On the last video, of these 3, you can see Jack explaining how the song Politician goes to Rory as they are coming back out for their final encore. Check out Jack`s excitement over Rory completely different aproach to the song compared to Eric`s way. Rory NAILED IT, and ADDED TO IT ! I don`t know of Jack and Rory playing together at any other time, although Cream and Taste toured together once. Born Under A Bad Sign is onea my favorite songs to sing along to: I`m Ready: Everybody has played Politician, why the first time I saw Davy he came out and did it on Mule`s encore with Warren, but Rory seems clueless at the beginning.......but that quickly changes. GREAT to hear this varied version ! Attachments:

Yesterday/last night it was: Eric Clapton`s Crossroads Guitar Festival 2004>>>>>>>> There`s just so much to like in this 2 DVD package with guitar greats of all ages and styles, but for me the favorite ones are: Call Me The Breeze & After Midnight: with JJ Cale and his wife and Eric doin` what nobody but JJ could do. I mean everybody has covered JJ, but in their own way. Nobody could ever do JJ but the man himself. Sadly another I never got to see live. Green Light Girl: Doyle Bramhall II with Robert Randolph and JJ Johnson. Check this out sometime. It always amazes me to watch a guitarist play his guitar upside down and it not come off as anything less than perfect. I`m hoping to finally see Doyle this year when he goes out with Tedeschi Trucks Band for some dates. They are a good fit for him. AND then these 3. Part of the reason I love these is because of David Hidalgo and Joe Walsh for what each of them represents and have accomplished, but a lot is because of the foundation behind them. As a guitarist/vocalist it must be a bit intimidating, even being a seasoned one, to join another band at such a large event and have confidence in where it will go. I can`t think of a better foundation than Booker T and the MG`s to join onstage, except for maybe the Swampers, and know everything is gonna be alright and then some. I got to see both Joe, in Nashville and State College Pa., and David, in N.Y.C, the last few years and each was all I had hoped for. I hope you get half of what I did outta this and you`ll love `em. Even Joe can`t get them off their mark and Duck makes Joe continue his intro `cause it`s workin`. Some may think that Duck missed the nod but these guys got eyes and and ears growin` everywhere.: a picture of David and Joe as I saw them.......... Attachments:

This week I watched two DVDs in the evenings>>>>>>>
Johnny Winter/Live In Times Square/Aug.28th/2003
A very sad look at Johnny during his possably worst time period. His hip was shot, he had the shakes, was frail and weak. The band was playing music slower than his usual pace and it made him look frailer and weaker that he needed to look or be. I actually think he was in better health his last 2 years than he was here. I`d pass on this one and find something else to watch by Johnny. We saw Johnny a year or two before this was filmed and I almost cried the whole performance. But you know I was sadder about it than he was........he just kept goin......or should I say he kept on keepin` on.
This was his best of the bunch:
Also watched>>>>>>>
Songs & Stories/New York Remembers Rory Gallagher/2005
This was a tribute show held in 2002 at The Bottom Line in N.Y.C. where rory played many times while touring the U.S.

Last night it was>>>>>>>>> The Derek Trucks Band/Songlines LIVE/2006 It was recorded live at The Park West, Chicago Il. on January 28, 2006. Great look and listen into this Band that Derek started at 14 and kept going for many years before combining forces with his wife and forming the Tedeschi Trucks Band. I love all the musicians in this band. When Derek and Susan formed TTB they took Mike Mattison on vocals and Kofi Burbridge on keyboards and vocals with them. We LOVE Mike`s vocals !!!!! The first time we heard him live in 2007 my wife asked him after the show.....Where does that voice come from?........Years of screaming.......was his answer. Mike has always been friendly to us, and takes time to talk music with my son Dalton. Mike went to Harvard Bussiness College before deciding that music was his calling. Todd Smallie on bass has become the bassman for JJ Grey & Mofro, and Yonrico Scott has become the drummer for Royal Southern Brotherhood. We`ve since seen Count M`Butu playing with Missing Cats at Warren Haynes Christmas Jam 2010, another project of Cody Dickinson of NMA. I wish I could play you my favorite song from the DVD, but it is not available to show you. It was Chevrolet. Mike`s voice is somethin` else on it !!!!!! But here`s two other`s that showcase Mike`s voice, Derek`s guitar, Todd`s bass, Kofi`s keyboarding, and so on: Well......I found a studio version to give you a glimpse of the LIVE version. This does not have the power or length of the live version, but gives you an idea of whatchermissin......... Here`s 3 pictures of different times of seeing Mike........

Last night it was>>>>>>>>>>.
A Tribute To Nils Lofgren...AND GRIN Reunion/2007
This was recorded Live on August 25, 2004 at Gudelsky Concert Pavillion; Rockville, Maryland. It has many friends, relatives, and fans of Nils taking the stage in honor of Nils and his music and then Nils and Bob Berberich(drums) and his brother Tom(guitar) reunite their band Grin. Their bassist has been dead for years and they have his son fill in on a couple and friend Ronnie Newmyer do some others. Ronnie pretty much assembled these guys. Some great music by some great musicians.
Here`s Nils` 3 brothers doin` Nil`s song Mud In Your Eye. The video is messing up but the audio comes through:
Here`s some guests doin` one of my favorite songs of Nils. Wade died shortly after this, but put his all in this one:
And here`s one from the Grin reunion with Nils & Tom pickin` each other`s guitar:

With yesterday being St. Patty`s Day.................... I drank not a drop, however I did the Irish thing and watched: Rory Gallagher/Irish Tour 1974/DVD/2000 This is a great DVD that has been released and re-released over the years. It started out as a double vinyl of live songs and eventually the VHS and then DVDs were released. In the mid `70s IRA terrorism was prevelent in Ireland and not much of anybody would go and play Belfast, BUT RORY DID time and time again, and he was/is very fondly remembered for it. Here`s the opening track, Walk On Hot Coals, and it gives you a good sense of the film, the music, the times and so on. Then to complete my Irish Day; I bought a rare Rory 7" vinyl to add to my collection. Even though Rory was anti putting out singles......as he didn`t want to be the top of the charts or to be pidgeon holed from what others though they should expect of him because of his marketing. He didn`t want to be marketed. He just wanted to play and record what moved him. Having said all of that, I own 9 7" vinyls by Rory(actually 1 from Taste, and 1 from Lonnie Dongan with Rory guesting) Here`s 8 that I own.......including the 1st one on the list......that I just bought yesterday(did not know it existed until yesterday).....and the 3rd one down, I own on 10" vinyl: www.45cat.com/artist/rory-gallagher

Today I listened to the CD then watched the DVD>>>>>>>>
Ben Harper with Charlie Musselwhite/Get Up !/CD-DVD/2013
These two team up to do some great blues numbers.
The Dvd is about 40 minutes of combined footage of 3 songs and the making of the album together.
Check both of these guys out on this project and the many others each have done during their careers.
Here`s the trailer:

Last night it was>>>>>>> Joe Bonamassa/Live from the Royal Albert Hall/2 DVDs/2009 My son bought me this after I took him to see Joe. This was Joe`s first ever performance at the Royal Albert Hall. It is where Joe had been headed for 20 years, since first picking up the guitar to learn to copy Clapton`s performance of Further On Up The Road, after seeing Eric and Cream play their farewell performance there(on DVD at age 12). Joe was awed by Eric`s performance and that is the single event that started his becoming another internationally known guitarist. My favorite of the night: And anybody that knows anything about Joe knows what happens when he straps on the Flyin` V :

Last night it was KISS>>>>>>>>
Kiss/Civic Arena; Pittsburgh Pa./2 DVDs/Dec.13, 2009
This is a show my wife and I took our son to before the Civic Arena was torn down. We had all 3 seen AC/DC there too before it came down. This was the venue where I saw my first show of Bachman Turner Overdrive and Wet Willie in `74 and where we saw countless bands for many years......shows like Robin Trower, The Outlaws, Nazareth, Eric Clapton, Foghat, Rory Gallagher and more. It was my main venue in the `70s and 80`s. I was first exposed to KISS by a new friend I had made from Pittsburgh in `74, along with Montrose and Aerosmith. I still really enjoy the first KISS album although they don`t get played much by me anymore, except for the first album. After seeing them, I saw a guy talking about taping the show, so I contacted him and got a copy. Something that humored me was the microphone covers that Paul had. Everytime Gene would use his microphone, Paul would tear off the cover and replace it. He didn`t want Gene`s slobber on his microphone !!!! Can`t blame him. It`s hard to imagine now how strong these guys came on the scene when they started out. There was nothin` like them then. Then commercialism set in and they had a lot less punch.

Last night I watched/listened to:
Steve Earle & The Dukes/Terraplane/CD-DVD/2015>>>>>>>>
It is his new CD with a DVD with it. The DVD has a 25 minute look at the making of the album plus 3 porch recordings of two of the songs from the album plus one other thrown in. Then the DVD has the entire album for listening also. This is Steve`s best work in years. As I have preached for years: Despair enhances creativity.......if you live through it............
Here`s a porch recording and one of my favorite songs from the new album. Hope he plays the State Theater again this year !

Last Night it was: Susan Tedeschi/Live From Austin Tx./CD-DVD/2012 This was recorded live for Austin City Limits on June 17, 2003. We love Susan`s voice. Seen her several times over the years starting with opening for Jonny Lang in 1998, again opening for John Mellencamp, guesting with the Allman Brothers and a few times as Tedeschi Trucks Band with husband Derek etc. She has a baby girl voice when talking but can belt out the tunes with a force to be noticed. Here she is doin` John Prine`s Angel From Montgomery: AND doin` Paul Pena`s Gonna Move:

Last night it was North Mississippi Allstars>>>>>>>
North Mississippi Allstars/Bluebird Theatre; Denver Co.(11/11/11)/2 DVDs/2011
A great live show performance by the 3 piece lineup that I have always favored with Luther and Cody Dickinson and Chris Chew on Bass. This has an instore solo performance by Luther and then a nearly 2 hour show by NMA doin` what they do......Mississippi Hill Country Music.
Here`s their opener, honoring Otha Turner:
