Yesterday, last night, it was 3 more Rory boots:
Rory Gallagher/Don Kirshner`s Rockshow/`1974 & 1975
Don Kirshner had a weekly show on Friday or saturday night in the `70s. I never saw it because those were the years I was runnin` wild and free and only going home to sleep when I couldn`t go no mo....... The only friends I ever knew that knew of Rory before I introduced them to him, learned of him because of this show. I still have a friend who has never driven anything but a Ford because of Rory`s song Souped Up Ford.
`74:
`75:
Next was Rory Gallagher/Rock Goes To College/Jan. 27,1979/ at Middlesex Polytecnic
It was from (I guess) a weekly show in the UK. There is about 45 minutes of footage:
Last I watched>>>>
Rory Gallagher/Live In Madrid/1975
A great high energy piece of footage all in black and white:

Last Night it was: Curves Contours and Body Horns> It is a nearly hour long documentary put out in 1994, to celebrate 40 years of Fender Stratocaster Guitars. Ray Minhinnett did the interviewing and a lot of other work to bring this project home. He interviewed a bunch of people associated with Fender Guitars as well as some very well known musicians, such as: Keith Richards, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, Paul Rodgers, Bryan Adams, Chris Rea, Dick Dale, Sonny Curtis, Buddy Guy, Hank Marvin, George Harrison, Nile Rogers, Ray Minhinnette, Nils Lofgren, Dweezil Zappa, David Gilmour, Jimmy Vaughan, Tony Joe White, Sherman Robertson, Mark Knopler, Steve Miller, Richie Sambora, Yngwie Malmsteen, Robin Trower, Jeff Lynn, Hotei, Jeff Healey, Debbie Davis and Rory Gallagher. Being a huge fan of Rory Gallagher, Ray wanted footage of Rory for the project and met and got nearly 40 minutes worth. Unfortunately Rory looked so uncomfortable during the interview that only a short piece of him playing was left in. Here`s is an edited version put up on youtube. It is missing about 10 minutes worth, including what WAS originally shown of Rory. A very well done documentary about Fender guitars, especially on the Stratocaster. Speaking of Rory Gallagher and Fender Stratocaster Guitars>>>>>>>>> Rory was just named one of the 15 Strat Players For The Ages: www2.fender.com/experience/artists/fifteen-strat-players-ages/?utm_content=sf34394191&utm_medium=spredfast&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=News&sf34394191=1My friend, Phil, used to do back stage work for Ray with sound, light, equiptment, etc., and he said that at the end of the filming, Ray ended up with this beautiful 40th anniversary strat with everyone`s signature on it. Ray is quite a good guitarist too. How would you like to have this stuffed under your bed !??! Attachments:

Last night it was>>>>> Joe Cocker/Mad Dogs and Englishmen/1970 A great view of communal living on the road in the late `60s and early `70s. I`ve always loved this concert album and my brother sent me this DVD ahead of us going to N.Y.C. on new year`s eve 2011 to see Gov`t Mule play it live for us. I enjoyed seeing all the footage of recently deceased Bobby Keys and one of my favorite bass players....Carl Radle....another talent gone too soon. My wife and kids still laugh about me bangin` on Leon Russell`s bus door for an autograph and a chat. I did get the autograph ! I still remember when this album came out and the times we were living in.................and miss them. Attachments:

A couple more Rory bootlegs I watched last night>>>>>>
Rory Gallagher/Loreley Festival/8-28-82 Pretty bad audio on this 100 minute DVD. Some of this is on the official Rockpalast DVD with David Lindley and more guesting. This was my least favorite lineup of Rory`s. I just never got into John Cooke`s keyboard playing or Brendan O`Neill`s drumming. John didn`t have the heart and feeling that Lou Martin had and Brendan`s drum hits are too percise with no flow to the action.........just my opinion......
Next was>>>>>>>>
Rory Gallagher/Lorient France/10/20/94 This was in the last year of Rory`s life when his health was greatly deteriorating. He was gaining weight and losing patience and looking less happy and content. HOWEVER on this date he was up and pouring energy and sweat. One of the better performances I`ve seen in his final year. I like the addition of the saxes, but this was the 2nd least favorite lineup. Can`t hear the bass lines but the this drummer flows a little more...............

Last night it was>>>>>>
Good To See You Again Alice Cooper/1975
Alice Cooper was one of those groups that really awakened me at about 14 years old. This band was singing about being 18 and wanting to exercise their rights to live by their own rules and be whatever they desired to be and with a force and an energy and a passion. It seemed like another lifetime to get to 18 and have my independence(actually I left home at 17 for the wild life). And now I`m 40 years past being 18 and yet the anthem for a rebellious youth still rings strong as if I`d never gotten old and grey and decrepid ! Yes Davy........music keeps you young.......at least while it`s playing !
As much as I`ve enjoyed AC`s music for most of my life; I never got to see them live. Probably a good thing as after watching this video, for the first time a few years ago, I don`t go for these kinds of stage theatrics. It`s all about the music for me. Hard to imagine for you younger people, but when we grew up listening to music, a lot of times we didn`t get to see the bands play and a lot of times we didn`t even know what all the band members looked like or what their names were or what they played. Media was barely in existence as far as what interested me anyhow. I quit following uncle Alice after he ousted the original band. I always loved Dennis Dunaway`s bass playing.
Where it all began.............for me:
The Alice Cooper band played across town a few summers ago for our County`s annual Fair. I had tickets to see Mule the same day and went there. Alice played golf at the next town over`s gated community called Treasure Lake. He handed out free tickets to ALL of the ground`s keepers as big shots trailed him across the greens as he played his 18 holes. Hats off to Alice for keeping roots with the common man.......

Crossroads Eric Clapton Guitar Festival...from Madison Square Garden NY from April 2013. Santa brought it to me along with a Samsung Blu Ray disc player with wifi Internet steaming feature... wow, the technology I've been missing out on... After hooking it up this morning, the second You Tube video that came up in a auto playlist was Davy performing Cortez the Killer live from the Iridium from April 2014. A very Merry Christmas indeed!!!

For Christmas, my son bought me:
Muscle Shoals/2013/DVD
A great documentary about the music that came from the Muscle Shoals recording studios during the `60s and `70s and still today. I could go on forever about it, but it should be watched. It is a historic part of the evolution of music...what went on down there !
trailer:
One of my favorite parts:
I loved learning that Duane was influenced by Jesse Ed Davis !

Yesterday I watched the last of my Rory bootleg DVDs>>>>>>
Rory Gallagher/Stuggart 1994/DVD
It was a show from the last year Rory was alive and performimg. You can see him reacting to being shocked on the lips by the microphone(or at least that`s what I`ve deduced from watching it over the years) for the first 5 minutes.....THEN he punches the microphone at about 5:05 and his hand bleeds and clots during the rest of the performance. A lot of sadness in these last years performances for me.........I mostly watch footage from the `70s when he was a much happier guy. Now I`ve got all the official DVDs of Rory to start watching.
Then today I watched an official Rory DVD>>>>>>
Rory Gallagher/Live In Cork-Messin` With The Kid/1987/DVD:
A concert from his home country of Ireland. This was one of his 3 piece combo`s WITH Mark on harmonica on some songs. Here is a very untypical version of Rory`s I Ain`t No Saint:
AND a typical version of Out On The Western Plains with great audience participation !:

Happy to hear that you watched it and enjoyed it Rick. It is very well done........music and footage. Last night I watched most of my 3 DVDs of: BBC`s Beat Club/1967 -1970/3 DVDs My friend in Scotland sent these to me mostly because of all the footage of the Small Faces. Jim knows I love Steve Marriott stuff. there is a lot of film of groups I grew up with and much more of bands I am not at all familiar with. These Beat Club shows were all filmed for European Television from `65 to `72. Seems really odd now to see groups, such as the Bee Gees, where they are all younger than my youngest child......yet when I first was exposed to them, I was not yet even a teenager. Here`s one of the clips from last night that has always kept me wondering........what`s up with Eric`s mouth ? toothache, dental surgery, Ginger punch him.....who knows ? Speaking of Eric Clapton...........here`s a water color painting a friend of mine did of Eric like 35 years ago. His name is Denny Karchner and he is a master at his craft. His first job was working in the art department under my father and now he is the official portrait artist for the Pittsburgh Steelers and is a master at western art and has things in western museums in Cody Wyoming and other places. www.karchnerwesternart.com/other places: search.yahoo.com/search?fr=mcafee&type=B211US605D20140617&p=Denny+KarchnerCheck out his work.....some is for sale too.....tell him Rick sent you: Attachments:

My son has really been into Duane Allman for a # of years now>>>>>>> So for his 24th birthday I bought him this and last night I watched it: Duane Allman & The Rise Of The Allman Brothers Band/Songs Of The South Productions/2013. A great timeline of Duane`s life and the road that led him to becoming the pioneer of Southern Rock. Here`s a trailer for it: Here`s the only song writing credit that Duane had>>>Little Martha: In the fall of 2008, just ahead of my son turning 18, we had a hat trick of concerts that helped shape his current interests in music. We had seen a few shows together, but it was the onset of our future and now present flow of gigs we share the love for. Here was the 3 concert event of the fall of 2008: Oct 13, 2008: We went to State College Pa. and saw at the Bryce Jordan Center>>>> The Allman Brothers Band........with Susan Tedeschi and Ron Halloway guesting The Dead.......with Warren on guitar & vocals Nov 2, 2008: We went to Munhall Pa.(suburb of Pittsburgh) and saw at the Carnegie Music Hall>>>>>> Back Door Slam Gov`t Mule........with Davy guesting on the encore(Politician & Champagne and Reefer Nov 9, 2008: We went to State College Pa. and saw at The State Theater>>>>>> Arizona Derek Trucks Band And we have 1st generation CDs of all 3 nights` performances that I got from a taper that was also at all 3. These pictures were all taken at events AFTER the ones I listed. We keep going back for more !

The past two nights I`ve been watching North Mississippi hill country music>>>>>> North Mississippi Allstars/The Library, Lubbock Tx./May 14, 1999 This is a performance done by Luther and Cody Dickinson as NMA with Allen Woody, of Gov`t Mule, guesting on bass for 3/4 of the show. Great insight into the early workings of these guys who have turned into a finely honed musicians, each able to play several instruments. Here`s a video that shows their strengths and weaknesses in 1999: North Mississippi Allstars/Be Bops CDs and Tapes, Jackson Mississippi/Nov. 29, 2003 An in-store acoustic performance which showcases Cody`s abilities on guitar and vocals as much as drums and washboard. Chris Chew arrives late and adds bass and comedy to the mix. No youtubes available...... Hill Country Revue/Denver Colorado/July 19, 2008 This was an alternate band for Cody and Chris when Luther was doing other things like touring and recording with the Black Crowes. I really like this band and hope that one day they reunite and do some more gigs. They put out 2 CDs. The first one is by far the best ! This band gave Cody the oportunity to step out front of his kit and play guitar and sing too. South Memphis String Band/The LePoisson Rouge, N.Y.C./April 1, 2010 This was another side project for Luther when away from NMA that he did with his friends Alvin Youngblood Hart and Jimbo Mathus. Old time country type music passed down through the generations: Luther is one of my favorite guitarists to see live(will again on March 3rd w/Cody and Anders Osborne):
