I know that I am one of the last of a dying breed, as I actually BUY the items I talk about That's exactly the way we do it, too. We should support those who still make real music.

GOOD ON YOU RUSTY !!! People are always steering me towards download sites to save me money, but this is why I earn money....to buy the music and to see the music played that I enjoy ! Most people don`t realize how few musicians actually achieve financial security. I would not be alive today without the soothing and healing of music. Last night I watched: The Life and Times Of Steve Marriott. Steve is another in my top 5 singer/songwriter/guitarist/frontmen. I have explored everything I can find on this small energetic man with the huge voice. I first heard him with Small Faces and that didn`t overly spark me. However, Humble Pie has been on my regular play list since about 1970 when I first heard them. Some of the early Humble Pie with Frampton, Marriott, Jerry Shirley, and Greg Riddley is some of the fondest memories I have of real Rock `N` Roll. This DVD starts with his childhood acting on through Small Faces, Pie, Steve Marriotts Allstars, Packet Of 3 and right up to he and Peter reaquainting themselves and making plans for a record and to tour again. They had done a few recordings and Steve got melecholy and returned home and died in a fire started by a lit cigarette. If you ever find a later CD called Majic Migits....BUY IT. It has a reunion of Marriott/Lane with new takes on old music.....excellent Here`s a clip from the DVD: as with other things, the whole can also be watched on youtuber.......... My favorite Majic Mijit song: One of the last songs that Marriott and Frampton recorded together in anticipation of a new record and tour: Steve`s autograph is another piece of music memorabilia I have on my sterio room wall: Attachments:

Yesterday I listened to/watched 2 CD/DVD packages: Chris Robinson New Earth Mud, 2002: Chris teamed up with the Stacey brothers for this project which led to a 2003 tour with Gov`t Mule, which we saw in Pittsburgh. It was our first Mule or Chris Robinson experience. This package has a CD of songs and a DVD with a short documentary about it`s making plus 4 songs, audio only. Joe Walsh, Analog Man, 2012: I can totally relate to the analog man concept......it`s me, but like Joe, I`m trying to adapt some what ! This has the CD and the DVD has 3 songs with some quips and humor added in. Joe has been on my regular play list since about 1970 but until 2011 I had never seen him live, although it was not for lack of trying. In 2011 my older son took me to an Eagles concert in State College Pa., because I refuse to pay their high prices. Gotta admit that I really enjoyed it, and none of their egos dominated the show. I liked that they let Joe do a few of his own songs as well as Eagle favorites. The next summer I got 5th row center seats to see Joe with my brother just outside of Nashville......something I had anticipated for decades, and I was not disappointed ! I love Joe`s music, humor and honesty. I`m glad he found peace and sobriety. I am happy for Joe with this release. I know he wants to continue to do his own music and bring his message to others who can learn from what he`s went through. As he says in the DVD: One of the scariest things that happened to him was that Keith Moon liked him. That just helped fuel his already burning fire. I hope to yet one day see a James Gang reunion ! The last song(I`m Gonna Try) has his old James Gang buddies Dale Peters and Jimmy fox on rhythm section and Little Richard on piano and vocals. Attachments:

Yesterday/Last Night it was:
The Drive-By Truckers,Live from Austin Tx, 2009....recorded Sept 26, 2008. It is another CD/DVD combo. Both the CD and DVD have every song on them in the same exact order.
It was a dream of Patterson Hood to one day play Austin City Limits, and this is the night his dream came true ! Patterson is the son of Muscle Shoal`s house bass player, from back in the day, David Hood.....who has played on many legendary recordings, with many great musicians. I`ve had tickets to see these guys play twice, but, well one of these days it`ll work out. My favorite song/story is 18 Wheels of Love, which I would really love to believe is true:
18 Wheels of Love.....the story is longer than the song:

I hope you enjoy it.
It`s equally sad and uplifting !
Listen to the CD if you get the chance to also. Some great music and insightful lyrics too. I`ve always said that dispair can cause great creativity, when channeled correctly. Walter can serve as a great inspiration to others in similar circumstances.
There are a lot of Liver problems in people my age and older that lived the party life when younger, even if they quit early.
You younger people can learn from the mistakes of my generation and the generation before, from people such as Walter who are honest enough to tell you the real stories, rather than glamorizing it.

Yesterday/Last Night I watches 2 Warren Haynes Band DVDs.......... Warren Haynes Band, Live from Asheville N.C. Civic Center, Dec. 11, 2010. This was the first live performance by Warren`s band at his annual Christmas Jam held every year for the past 26 years. This was leading up to the release of his Man In Motion album. My son and I drove to Asheville to be at Warren`s 22nd annual Christmas Jam. We had the room next to Allen Woody`s father and enjoyed our visits with him. The most enjoyable part of this DVD for me is seeing my son in the footage. He was 3 heads back from the stage barrier for most of the show which included: Missing Cats, Umphrees McGee, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Warren Haynes Band, Steve Miller Band and Gregg Allman and Friends. About 7 hours of music for a $50 ticket ! This was my son`s first XMAS JAM and my 3rd. I am wearing my shirt from the 2005 Christmas Jam in my avatar picture with Davy. This DVD was sold for $5 with the purchase of Warren`s Man In Motion Album......hard to find now. Here`s two videos from the DVD and officially released: Then I watched the DVD from the 2CD/1DVD package: Warren Haynes Band,Live At The Moody Theater in Austin Tx. on Nov. 3, 2011. It has a few different players than used at Christmas Jam or on the album. It is an almost 3 hour performance, with the entire on the DVD. The two CDs have about 90% of the music from the show. Excellent quality video and sound. Here`s a couple from The Moody Theater>>>>> This was off of an earlier solo album that Warren put out: and one he(Gov`t Mule) did with Bootsy Collins during the Deep End Project: Here`s 3 pictures from Christmas Jam 2010 One of my son, me and a friend I met on a Rory Gallagher forum in 2005 from Asheville and his son. One of the Steve Miller Band And one of The Gregg Allman and Friends Band We got to see Gregg Allman and Friends and The Steve Miller Band play together a few months later yet again. Those 2 played together less than 10 times over their long careers....the first time being at this Christmas Jam and then several venuesin different towns together when we saw them again in the spring of 2011. We felt privlaged !

Yesterday/Last Night I watched two more Warren Haynes related DVDs>>>>>> Warren Haynes Presents: The Benefit Concert Vol.8: It is a Warren Haynes Christmas Jam, from Asheville N.C. on Dec. 16, 2006. All these musicians come and play for free at the X-MAS JAMS. This is the 26th year(2014). All the money profits go to Habitat for Humanity which is a great cause that ends up benefiting families in Asheville N.C. This was the second year in a row that my brother and I met for the event, and also met up with my Rory friend Wayne. This year(2006) the performers were: Warren Haynes, Dave Matthews, The John Popper Project. Marty Stewart and the Fabulous Superlatives, The New Orleans Social Club, The Taj Mahall Trio and Gov`t Mule. Also with guests of: Branford Marsalis, Brendan Bayliss, Dave Schools, Kevn Kinney, Mickey Raphael, Mike Barnes,Randall Bramlett, Robert Kearns, & Taylor Hicks. We went for a $43.50 ticket, which at a normal gig wouldn`t pay Half the price of a Dave Matthews ticket ! Here`s a couple from that night: Then I watched: The Allman Brothers, Live At Great Woods Boston Mass., Sept. 6, 1991. This is a live show plus a couple acoustic songs plus interviews with some of the players. It is from the timeperiod when Dickey and Warren shared guitar duties and Allen Woody played bass. Very little footage of Woody. Nice glimpse at a younger, cockier Warren. ^^^^^^^^^CHECK OUT WOODY`S 18 STRING BASS^^^^^^^^^^^ Sadly I never got to see Dickey with the Allman Brothers but have enjoyed seeing Dickey Betts and Great Southern on a couple occasions ! His son, Duane(yes after THAT Duane) is a good picker too.

The past 3 nights I`ve been watching/listening to:
Gov`t Mule/Deepest End/2003
It is a 2CD/1DVD package recorded live on May 3, 2003 in New Orleans. It has 6 hours of music between the 3 discs. only 7 songs are on both CD and DVD. This was the culmination of the Deep End Project and brought Gov`t Mule back as a band and into becoming a 4 piece band. Guest are: Jack Casady, Les Claypool, Roger Glover, Mike Gordon, Paul Jackson, Conrad Lozano, Will Lee,Jason Newsted, George Porter Jr., Greg Rzab, Dave Schools, Rob Wasserman, Victor Wooten, Karl Denson, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Bela Fleck, David Hidalgo, Sonny Landreth, Ivan Neville, Fred Wesley, & Bernie Worell. The show ends with 3 bass players on Thorazine Shuffle.
Here`s one of my favorites from the show:

I think my favorite DVD, although I love Davy's, is Jeff Becks DVD Ronnie Scotts. I have never in my life seen a bass player play like that! Tal W blows my mind. I also love Joe B's Rockplast because that is the era of music that I liked of his. A edgy sound with great lyrics. And every once in a while I like to toss in Grace Potter and the NOcturnals because I'm in it... A LOT! LOL And Blues and Lasers was memorable because we are the ones that filmed it. But probably these days I toss in Warren Haynes Band the most because I miss them so much. Cant wait until they start touring again which I'm thinking with ABB retirement, that should be shortly.

I just got in the mail...and watched/listened to yesterday/last night>>>>>> Gregg Allman, All My Friends, 2CD/1DVD recorded live on Jan 14, 2014 in Atlanta Ga. A great tribute performance with an ACE core band with many excellent walk ons !!!! Gregg Has been one of my favorites for most of my life. 3 of the core band members are guys that I love to see live when I`m in Nashville: Audley Freed(guitar), Jack Pearson(guitar), and Jimmy Hall(harmonica, vocals). Last night I watched a Hot Tuna video.
It was: Electric Hot Tuna, Live At The Fillmore, December 1994
I have enjoyed Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady since about 1967 when I first heard them with Jefferson Airplane, and then followed them to Hot Tuna in the early 70s. I love these guys as much today as back in the day. I`ll always remember at Christmas Jam 2005 Dr. Ralph Stanley was playing and Jorma was right down front watching and taking pictures like any other fan of the man was ! I knew then that Jorma was a real guy as well as a gifted picker.
Can`t give you a clip, without putting up the whole show.........
So here`s my favorite from their last album which I`ve got on CD & Vinyl:

Last night it was:
Funky Meters, Live from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, 2000
George Porter and Art Neville have been playing together for many years now and have the groove thing down solid. Brian Stoltz and David Russell Batiste fill in the gaps and add to a great performance of old Meter standards and more. The only thing that takes away from the music is the clothes and knee high white socks that 3 string George wears !
This wasn`t one of the better ones, but you can see George`s outfit and feel some groove>>>>>>>>>
George is one bad a$$ bass player !!!

Last night it was:
JJ Grey & Mofro, Brighter Days LIVE, Jan. 22, 2011 recorded at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta Ga. CD/DVD
This is an excellent package with all but 3 of the songs on the DVD also on CD. Great footage of JJ`s homeland of upper Florida, along with concert footage of powerful songs and short interviews with JJ and members of the band and the chief operator of Alligator records where JJ`s music is marketed. This will give you great insight into the live JJ experience. His band is top notch too !
Here`s Orange Blossoms from the DVD:
AND a teaser video about the CD/DVD package:
