I still like your blue one! That was the first time ever held a PRS and fell in love with that feel! Ellie is beautiful though and she feels great as well.....

Love that blue guitar too. Cracking instrument. The 408s are great pickups. Different flavour. I pick it up often! There is just something about Ellie that keeps me coming back to her. She's a bit quirky, but feels and sounds fantastic, and in all her years on the road has never let me down. Not once. That's an instrument you hold onto!

I lied! I played a 1980s PRS way back! Wasn't sure I liked it then! I was a strat guy. So now I have a 408 thanks to you and I love it but its funny because I cant seem to get that PRS sound from it! I've tried it though my Fender Hotrod DeVille and my Line 6 Spider III. Any suggestions? This will give you an idea of what it sounds like if you want to listen....https://soundcloud.com/mark-zepp/magic-of-merlin

As another 408 pickup user, what is it you can't get out of them Mark?
Listening to your clip I'm missing some treble and bite, which helps give some clarity and definition, but my personal tone is more Gary Moore than Carlos Santana...

Hi Twinfan - yep thats exactly what I am trying to attain. More trebel and bite. Seems to have a flat heavy tone to me. I am running through a fulltone 2 overdrive and probably an old Boss DS-1 distortion. I have the trebel up and the bass down. The Line 6 is set on a blues model sound. So I guess I am looking for exactly what you were saying.

Gotcha. I would go with the Fender amp on the clean channel plus the Fulltone. Try this:
Set the amp as loud as you can/need to with the bass on 1/3 and the mid/treble on 2/3. Add the Fulltone in Normal mode with flat mids. Basically, what you want is the clean guitar tone with as little colouring as possible but more gain/distortion.
Have the guitar tone on 7-8 and the volume between 7-10. Use the tone control to tame any shrill high end and the volume control to cut back on the overall gain.
See if that helps?

No problem. I always find that 'less'='more' so I try and keep things simple!

Does anyone know the history of the battle scarred stratocaster that Davy played on the madhousetv.com performance recently? The way the finish was worn off reminded me of SRV's strat. It stands to reason that something that well worn has a colorful past.
Thanks in advance for any information.

Hi Mike, By coincidence, I had just come here to post.......... AND my post was going to include something about that. That guitar is a Fender Stratocaster Guitar made in the name and honor of Rory Gallagher. I`m pretty sure that Davy got that from Donal Gallagher, Rory`s brother........but not posative. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StratRGTrib/P.s.......I see Davy`s playing yet another guitar last night in N.Y.C. edit>>>>>> Here`s a picture of the original one owned by Rory on display at Harrads in London several years ago. If I remember correctly, it is a `61 sunburst strat. It was Rory`s main guitar from being a teenager in a show band , right up to his death in `95. It was stolen early on and left out in the rain. I believe that is when it got saturated, swelled and the finish started poping. It was always said that Rory had a very acidic sweat, and he sweated bucket fulls at nearly every performance. His sweat cut away at the finish even more, and he also picked at it with his fingernails pulling loose pieces off. One of my favorite Rory Gallagher albums is Against The Grain which pictures the guitar in 1975: images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=A0LEVx8o1URWmugA1h1XNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTExZHIzMzN1BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMyBHZ0aWQDVUlDMV8xBHNlYwNzYw--?p=Rory+Gallagher+Against+The+Grain&fr=mcafeeAttachments:

Thank you rk. Now I know why it looked familiar. I've watched the video of Joe B playing Sloe Gin on it probably 50 times on my Tour De Force DVD. Here's a fan-shot youtube video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AceOp5sYHg. I can't believe I couldn't figure that out sooner. Thanks again for the assist.

You are most welcome............. I love when I`m given the platform to talk about Rory and anything related !
Davy seems to have stuck with his "new" guitar and the Rory strat again last night.
I think Davy`s realizing that the PRS guitars are a part of his equiptment.
I love seeing him play vintage guitars also !
I`m sure he feels the great honor of being a young man AND a spokesperson for Paul and his guitars, and I am quite happy and proud for him !!! But an old soul such as he is.....being influenced by the history of blues.......the older guitars seem more a fit for him to me. But then.....hey I`m old school and battered and a bit vintage as well, so I think differently than a lot of you younger folks.
