This year is screaming towards the end, and I`m already looking ahead to shows in 2016.
Who are you going to see in 2016 ?
Who would you like to see in 2016 ?
I suspect that some of you may be considering the cruise to see Davy and Joe and more...........
Here`s the ones that I have bought for so far for next year:
Gary Clark Jr.........with Amy Helm and the Handsome Strangers opening: I`ve got tickets to see this show on Feb. 28 at The Ryman in Nashville Tn. with my brother.
Anders Osborne Band: I`ve got tickets to see this show on March 2 at The Taft Theater in Cincinnati Oh. with same brother.
Robin Trower: Just bought tickets to see this show on April 20 at The State Theater in State College Pa. with my wife.

Just bought tickets yesterday to see The Rides on May 9th near Pittsburgh; at the same place I first saw Davy.
Headed to Tennessee and more in 2 weeks to have an 8 day musical adventure with my brother. After we see Pete Cummings play and do open mic at Pucketts in Liepers Fork on Thursday night, we do Gary Clark Jr. on Friday at The Ryman in Nashville, then back to Pucketts Saturday to see Heavy Drunk, then on to Memphis to stay on Beale Street for a night or two, before ending our week in Cincinnatti seeing Amy Helm and Anders Osborne`s bands.......Then returning home. Might squeeze in another band if possable...............

Just bought tickets to see Whitford St. Holmes play the Sellersville Theater south of Allentown Pa. in June. Can`t wait to see Brad Whitford, Derek St. Holmes, Chopper Anderson, Troy Luccketta, and Buck Johnson. I was lucky enough to be a guest of a guest at Derek`s wedding reception in Tennessee the end of February, and see he and Troy and Chopper and about another dozen musicians play for us, making me want this next gig all the more ! Here`s a short clip of Brad, Derek and Chopper(bass) at Pucketts a few years back with a few other regular musicians at my brother`s neighborhood hangout: And a couple from the Whitford St. Holmes Band And a pertinent interview: I am considering going to the annual Tommy Bolin Festival with my brother and George in Sioux City Iowa in August.............since it is the 40th anniversary of his death and my 60th birthday. Tommy and I share a birthday date. Here`s my brother Karl, George and I together at the Beacon Theater New Years Eve 2011 after 2 nights of Gov`t Mule. It was great meeting George, his kids and of course Warren, Matt, Danny, and Jorgan !

Thank God music don`t kill, `cause I`m such a junkie !
After ordering the Whitford St. Holmes tickets, I realized that Pat Travers band plays the same venue, the very next night, so I just bought tickets for that too. So I guess we`ll be there a couple or few days and visit my brother, and some textile shops, some amish shops and hopefully Martin Guitars as well. Been wanting to see Pat`s band since the 1980s, but have never got to. Did stand with his drummer(Sandy Gennaro) a few weeks ago at Pucketts in Tennessee, during open mic night. He`s very talented and friendly.
Sandy:
Here they are in the present lineup doin` one of Pat`s biggies from back in his hey day:

I see he just put up MOONDOGS in Blawnox.......just outside PITTSBURGH APRIL 22.....a Friday night. 2 nights after we see Robin Trower in State College Pa. So Wednesday night we`ll see Robin tear up his strat............... Then on Friday we can see Davy tear up his NEW TELE !!!!! Hopin` nuthin` gets in the way of us doin` this. Probably will be my son and I seeing Davy together for the 4th time since first seeing him together in 2008 as Back Door Slam, in 2010 as part of the Rhythm Devils and then again in 2011 doin` Rory Gallagher music at the Notes From San Francisco album release party and tribute. As well as seeing Davy next Friday............ I`m also hoping to get there early enough to catch Norman Nardini and his band: normannardini.com/bios/His bass player, Harry Bottom, was a local boy that I used to love seeing in his early bands as they played splash hops at the local swimming pool on weekends and many more spots. As a young teenager, he played in a band called Thrush that was a local favorite. He later was in aband called Three Rivers Band as they blended with Pittsburgh musicians and centered there. They later became Darkhorse and it was rumored that their success had drawn the attention of George Harrison.........who owned the rights to the name Darkhorse.........supposedly leading to their breakup. I had always wondered what happened to our 2 local boys gone citybound...............Ed Brown, who changed his name to Harry Bottom(it`s a bass thing), and Glennie Ianaro on drums. I`ll always remember that Glennie`s parents were at every show they played here locally. He had one of the biggest kits around!!! Anyhow, I hope to see Ed(Harry) play the venue next to Moondogs(Starlight) from 6 P.M. leading up to Davy starting at 8 as well as Davy`s show. Always good to have a 2fer and to catch up on old news.............. Here`s a picture of Glennie and one of his kits and a couple pictures of Thrush in the late 1960s........ Ed`s on the far left, in the Thrush Picture.

We had a great Robin Trower show tonight ! He played a lot of the Bridge of Sighs album as well as others throughout his solo career. I very much enjoyed the songs he sang from his Something`s About To Change 2014 album. Next up is Davy on Friday. I picked up Robin`s 2015 vinyl and bought my wife a cool looking 1970`s era Trower in front of a stack of Marshalls t-shirt in gray and black.

My son, Dalton, and I headed 115 miles to Blawnox Pa. to see Davy and Norman Nardini last night. We got there at 6 when Norman started entertaining the suppertime crowd at The Starlight. We had dinner and listened to the band for an hour and a half do their music and banter to the restaurant/bar crowd. Was quite fun and it seemed like I was in a neighborhood bar with mostly local patrons. As Norman continued his banter/schtick and was comically asking what we remembered about 1969, I took advantage of the lead-in and walked next to him and said : "Here`s what your bass player was doin` in about `69" and handed him the pictures I took to show. I said that he was playing in a band called Thrush. At that I caught Ed`s attention and he was floored by the pictures and my memories of HIS past. We shook hands, exchanged a few words and I headed 2 doors down the road to prepare for Davy`s show. As I left, the bar crowd was passing the pictures and realizing that their local bass player was something more than they had known. Some had remembered the bands.....Three Rivers Band and Darkhorse, but had not realized that Harry/Ed was in them. normannardini.com/Some history of Norman and his career in music: More about Davy on a new post................... Here`s 3 of the 4 pictures I passed out:

Just bought tickets today to see George Thorogood again at the State Theater in State College Pa. in July. Also hope to see Gov`t Mule and Blackberry Smoke in August in Pittsburgh if my legs hold up, as it is a general admission gig and I have a hard time with them because of leg and back problems. That live fast/die young thing backfired with me when I decided to try and grow old...................... I think some of you have heard this one before.......as the schtick goes: Will be nice to see Jim Suhler and Jeff Simon again. Haven`t seen either since they played with Davy in N.Y.C. in 2011.

We had a GREAT show last night at the Carnegie Music Hall in Homestead Pa.(just outside Pittsburgh) We saw Kenny Wayne Shepherd(0ne of my wife`s favorites), Stephen Stills, Barry Goldberg, Chris Layton and Kevin McCormac as THE RIDES. We missed seeing them on their first outting 3 years ago, but were there this time. They played songs from both of their albums(I picked up their new one last night) and a few from their own catalogues and ended with Keep On Rockin` In The Free World. Nice to see 2 great strat players, with completely different styles. They did both play Gibson`s as well. Kenny was sportin` a new white Les Paul that was beautiful. No videos up from last night but here are a couple from recent shows and 3 pics from last night. I feel bad for Stills as he struggles with his voice....................Was awesome the way he shamed the audience into putting away their phones !!!!! More should take that approach to phones and TALKING during performances

Tonight, Dalton and I went to State College for the 2nd night of Summer`s Best Music Fest: www.summersbestmusicfest.com/We only went to hear the last 3 bands>>>>>Nikki Hill, Eric Lindell, and Doyle Bramhall II. Neither of us had seen Nikki before and were blown away by her voice. She`s a slender young black woman with a powerful voice and a great presence. I didn`t take any pictures but did buy her CD after the show and visited with her and got her to sign it. She had a lot of that James Brown kinda thing goin` on for her. Her band stuck around to see Doyle after their and Eric`s sets were over. This was my 3rd time seeing Eric Lindell and the 2nd time seeing him with my son Dalton. I got some pictures and bought his one CD he was offering and met him and had him sign it. Eric`s one of those musicians that I love seeing live, but his recorded music just doesn`t quite bring it home like the live stuff does. I think he maybe need some better production on his recorded music. He`s a good training ground for upcoming musicians like a John Mayall or a Kim Simmonds, but for southern Americans. Here`s a few good shots I got of Eric and his band.................... More tomorrow
