What a great show! This was my first time seeing Davy, and I can't wait to see him again on Joe Bonamassa's blues cruise February 2016. The Soiled Dove Underground is an intimate venue with great sound, and tiered seating/standing for 300-400. There's hardly a bad seat in the house. My wife and I had seats (at Davy's 10 o'clock) in the first row of elevated seating. We were about 25 feet from him and had a perfect view above the heads of the those standing on the floor in front of the stage.
I was surprised when an opening act came out ahead of Davy. It was Hollis Brown (http://www.hollisbrown.com) with special guest David Immerglück of Counting Crows (who are both playing tomorrow night at Red Rocks). They came onto the stage to The Rolling Stones - Honky Tonk Woman and played 5-6 songs. They were very polished, professional, and sounded great. The crowd loved them.
Among the 5 guests I had with me were 2 talented musicians. I had a moment of panic that the musician I had brought them to see had painted himself into a corner with an opening act that upstaged him.
A short time later Davy and the guys strolled onto stage, with no lighting, & no Honky Tonk Woman, & completely captivated the audience from their first note. The crowd gave a hearty round of applause after every song and the band seemed genuinely appreciative and almost surprised each time. I had the lofty goals of shooting a video of Tear Down the Walls, and also of posting a setlist. Apparently it's hard to perform either task when you're busy picking your jaw up off the floor. I can tell you that Davy played most of the songs we've watched on Natasha's 2 video's from earlier this year, and played "Almost Cut My Hair" with a special guest (whose name I didn't catch...but who had an awesome head of hair) as the encore.
I parted ways with one of the musicians in the parking lot. He summed up Davy's performance with a heartfelt handshake, a barely audible "Wow" and a smile plastered on his face. The other musician is my brother-in-law & we drove home together. During the 45 minute drive, he gushed above Davy's singing, songwriting, and guitar playing to the point that I, and both our wives (sisters) accused him of having a "man-crush" on Davy. I of course rushed to his rescue to point out that he was obviously just a man of great taste.
Davy thank you so much for the show. Here are a couple shots I caught to document the evening.
