My brother was in Chicago, over the weekend, with his college friend from Philly to see the last DEAD show, and to visit his daughter. Today he returns to Liepers Fork, outside Nashville and meets up with my son and his girlfriend for open mic night at Pucketts tomorrow night. Tonight my son Dalton and his girlfriend see Me Without You for the umpteenth`s time in Nashville(this time) after touring Jack White`s 3rd Man Records. Dalton......or as the band calls him, Roadhouse, first saw this band when he was in 10th grade and he drew this picture for them at that time. That`s when I knew he would be an artist................. Attachments:

I always wanted to see Levon Helm at The Barn in Woodstock............. AND Jorma at The Fur Peach Ranch. Well, now Levon is gone, but I still need to make plans for a Fur Peace Ranch session and I`d really like to go on one of his rides with him and the gang on the Harleys ! To bring everything full circle: I went to Kim Simmonds site this morning(as I always do) www.facebook.com/SavoyBrown65and realized that seeing him soon at The Fur Peace Ranch would have suited me just right, but I see his last post is him returning to Moondogs outside of Pittsburgh again this fall..........always sumthin` else on the horizon.

Had an awesome Steve Earle & The Dukes show tonight !!!!!! My wife, myself, both sons and one son`s girlfriend went. and we had The Mastersons open and the Steve and band played for almost 2 and a half hours. He played most of his new album as well as old standards and even some songs like Wild Thing and Hey Joe. He loves our local theater and has us on constant rotation. He spoke to us from the stage about his young son with autism and how it helped break up his marriage and his commitment to getting all the help and schooling possable for his son, John Henry. After the show we met Steve and I introduced him to my family and especially our son Scott who is 37 and has autism. Scott told Steve that Copperhead Road was his favorite and then Steve GAVE Scott a Copperhead Road T Shirt ! Steve then showed my wife a picture of his son playing the drums on a kit given to him by Levon Helm before his passing. My wife told Steve about Scott`s gifts like having a photographic memory and how he nearly burnt us up in house fires when he was young and a lot of other things in Steve future......in a commical manner. We all bonded through autism. Steve saw my Rory Gallagher shirt and offered that he first saw Rory play live in Texas in 1972 with Dusty Hill(bassist and vocalist for ZZ Top and with Dusty`s brother Rocky) I told Steve that I very muchloved his newest album and that it proved to me what I had already learned from Rory Gallagher............that heartbreak and Despair enhance creativity. We also talked with Eleanor Whitmore and Chris Masterson of The Mastersons and The Dukes and Kelly Looney bass player for Steve and The Dukes since 1988. He and Dalton got to talk bass talk again !!!! Tonight was an A lister fer sure !!!!!!!! Attachments:

Last night we drove to Johnstown to see The Flood City Music Festival(2nd night of 3). There were a # of bands to see, but we just came to see 3. We saw Eric Lindell: Then we saw JJ Grey & Mofro: JJ has made another lineup change since we saw him a few months ago. AC Cole is now gone and Terrence Higgins has replaced him on drums. We`d seen Terrence playing for Warren Haynes Band in years past. This video was taken a little over a week ago in Germany. The guys were commenting on how much Johnstown looks like Germany. That`s why so many immigrants came to Pennsylvania from Germany. Then we saw Big Head Todd and The Monsters(our first time): While we were there we bought Anders Osborne tickets for 3 weeks from last night. I bought 4 tickets for $64. It would have cost me nearly $95 on the internet. Another reason I wish I lived closer to the music. What we pay in extra costs on ticket delivery these days is damn near criminal ! Then to put the topper on the evening......we got stopped at a sobriety checkpoint, and nearly got sidetracked from our destination. My wife`s hard looks and a little dumb luck got us back on the road again and safely home. These knuckleheads should pay more attention to..........nevermind..............just watch your back, `cause nobody else in gonna. We just bought tickets to see Lucinda Williams and her backing band, Buick 6, will also open for her in October. We also found out that our local venue has booked 2 more bands for springtime that I`m going to see: Robin Trower and Los Lobos. My wife and Robin made a connection there the last time we saw him there !

What a GREAT Lucinda Williams show we had last night.
Started off with a guy doin` solo acoustic songs. His name was Matt Blake and he sang 4 or 5 songs. One was about Keith Richards and had some good humor in it.
Then out came Buick 6 who are also Lucinda`a backing band. They had their new CD up and I bought a copy and met the 3 guys afterwards and got them to sign it and we talked for several minutes. The guitarist used to be a Wallflower(part of Jakob Dylan`s band) They were all great guys and accomplished musicians. Lucinda didn`t come out, and we had to get home. She was backstage meeting the person who spent $1100 on a guitar that she was going to sign for them and have a chat. Their opening set, before Lucinda, was mostly acoustic.
Here`s a taste if you are interested, and a funny promo for their CD:
Then came Lucinda and in a great mood and ready to share. I don`t think that she is always comfortable in front of people, even though it`s her job ! It was a sold out show and a VERY respectful audience. She, and the band loved the venue and us for our reception of their music. I feel they`ll be back. She played for nearly 2 hours and covered songs from her whole career and gave us some stories on the songs. I have never seen the patrons of this theater so glued to their seats.....little talking and few trips for bathroom and drink refills. And it was the loudest clapping, and hooting and hollarin` for them to come back out. It was so special to see her face light up again and again. I`ve never seen so many local musicians there for the show either.
Here`s an example of what we experienced from these 4 musicians.
And if I haven`t put you off yet......CHECK THIS OUT:
I love seeing the creative process and having Tony Joe White on board.........priceless !

I met up with my brother from Nashville in Pittsburgh yesterday, and we kept busy until the show................ We had an outstanding The Word/Amy Helm & The Handsome Strangers show ! Amy started promptly at 8, as I`m sure her dad schooled her to. She was a powerful force for 45 minutes of her own music as well as some covers. The crowd loved her, and I`m so happy that she`s getting this music heard and that she`s being spurred to tour after her father`s passing. I will see her again if possable. Bought her 2 CDs The Word was all I hoped for and more. They played songs from their 2 albums and a few covers over nearly 2 hours. Unfortunately, Chris Chew is pretty worn down after these shows on the road and shedding like 150 pounds. His playing didn`t suffer any though. We got to see Robert Randolph do his usual thing as well as play the drums and some great guitar as well. Luther and Cody were on ppoint and charging full speed ahead as usual and John Medeski was smilin` and blisterin` us with that organ. Their live show gives so much more than the albums show. Got a couple more copies of their CD for Christmas presents. I hope somebody puts a few videos up on youtube............ edit............I found the first one up for Amy Helm & The Handsome Strangers: and even though there are still none of The Word; I found a good example: Next show is Alvin Youngblood Hart on November 8 in MillheimPa...........can`t wait ! My next show with my same brother is the end of February when I`ll do the 725 miles to Nashville to see Gary Clark Jr. at the Ryman Auditorium. Will be nice to get back to the Ryman, since we saw Gov`t Mule there in Jan. 2010. Attachments:

We had a great suppertime show at an old refurbished restaurant/microbrewery on Sunday night. We went to see Alvin Youngblood Hart`s Muscle Theory. They played some blistering electric with a few acoustic`s and several covers blended in over a 2 hour and 15 minute performance for a $16 ticket. We got to meet up with them after the show and talk and get things signed and pictures etc. My son got to talk bass talk with Bill Block who was playing his Allen woody bass. Bill let Dalton handle it and play it. It was his first time checking one out in person. Bill is also friends with the Anders Osborne Band and we got an update on Eric Bolivar who`s Anders` drummer who is awaiting a kidney transplant. Found out that the drummer and I are both painters and talked about that. Alvin was very friendly and accomodating with autographs and pictures; not only for us, but for anybody who stepped forward. I bought 4 more copies of his 7" 45 and had him sign them as well as other things I took. I gave one each to my son, his girlfriend and his luthier who couldn`t make the show........and the rest for me and my collection. I`d highly recommend seeing Alvin in any of his musical projects......electric, acoustic, blues, rock, country, whatever. He`s a true musician, putting the music first. Here`s the 2 songs on the 45...........I LOVE `em both !!! For anybody who wants the WHOLE SHOW experience>>>>>>>>>>> Here`s the New York City show up for viewing from 3 nights after our show: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAdtUDaBfRANot near the energy level of our show, but some good songs.................

Well after Rocktober I was a car guy in November. The Classic 24 Hours at Daytona returned for the 2nd year and has VERY quickly become a success. Great times with world champion cars and drivers. This event will now rotate back and forth from Daytona to Le Mans each year. There was also the Turkey Rod Run car show over Thanksgiving weekend. I went to a couple music shows, missed a cpl because my truck had a bottom clamp work loose and sprung a leak. A big bonus for me was on short notice I was able to see Danielle Nicole Band and of course they were great. I saw another car show in Orlando, the Festival of Speed to finish my fix. Caught a rare acoustic night with Selwyn Birchwood in a tiny bar last Tuesday. Cool fun! Now Christmas, then world go kart championships (800 karts last year) for 3 days before a New Year's Eve band?
