I was working on JB's street team..in fact the Midwest Co-ordinator and we were discussing this upcoming group called BDS. We were trying to get BDS to open for JB but never happened.
BDS was playing in some dive bar in Milwaukee so made the trip from the western burbs of Chicago and I went to check it out. Maybe 20 people in the place but to Davy and BDS did not matter. They played as if it was a full house. I remember approaching Davy after the show and I said you could have just phoned that one in ...his reply was " it is quality over quantity" that stuck with me. I also commented that he was an old soul somehow channelling someone else.

Hi Steve I was also a member of Joes street team though I haven't needed to be so active lately . I remember when I first saw Joe and there were about 70 people in the audience . My last Joe show was Red Rocks this past Aug. he sold it out 9,000 ppl . The first time I saw Davy and BDS was at a small dive "the Middle East" in Boston. I'd seen Davy on Youtube and couldn't believe he was playing near me. I remember the tickets were $5.00 and there were 3 other bands on the bill including a band that included Joe Perry from Aerosmiths son. There was another guy I met from New Hampshire who drove down with his friend for the show. I was with my fiancé and 2 friends . There was 20 people there at most and some had left after the previous bands . The place was dark and they had sound problems, but Davy , Adam , and Ross put on an awesome set after things got sorted. They played almost all of RollAway and Davy had our jaws on the floor the whole time. I remember thinking I'd just witnessed one of the best concerts I've ever seen and these guys are only kids .( Ross was the only one legal to drink at the time). And playing in such a crap venue what a shame . Since then I've attended shows that Davy supported Govt. Mule , Jeff Beck,Chickenfoot,Skynrd ,and Kid Rock I've seen him achieve the recognition he deserves and mature as a person and if possible become a better guitarist and singer.I love the way Davy gives us something different with every album ,his many styles and influences always keeping it fresh. I was also the first one to post about Davy and BDS over @ the JB forum /JBrules. The good folks over there really fell for Davy and helped spread the word. As long as Davy keeps playing I'll keep supporting ! cheers Paul

Paul I was the same way...very involved with JB but as time went by became less involved as JB's success ment his management people were calling the shots...
You mentioned Davy opening for Govt Mule,Chickenfoot, syynard, Kid Rock, Jeff Beck and how bout his involvement with Further....I used to wonder if Davy went down to the crossroads and made some kind of deal because this guy came from a piece of rock in the Irish sea between Ireland and the UK and was doing all these great things in such a short amount of time.
But anyone who has met Mr Knowels would agree that he is such a down to earth person and very likeable and the fame has not gone to his head. I even witnessed Davy patiently standing in line with other fans just to pay respect to Buddy Guy at Buddys club in Chicago
Davy will be playing next month in Chicago and I look forword to seeing him again and I did join street team ( the ground work really does work)

I used to be a huge Joe B fan. Loved his music so much before he cranked out a bunch of albumns of cover songs. Plus just like you all said...pushing his fans to bother friends about his music. I mean I don't mind sharing a musician song but I don't like selling them out. His ticket prices are sky high and so I pretty much quit travelling to see them even though I love the people in his streetteam. But I must say, when I went to the last show I understood why. So many good musicians he hired playing instrucments I never knew existed. THat was pretty cool. My husband and I had a total blast.

I first got into Joe, for the same two reasons that I got into Davy.............. Being a fan of Rory Gallagher and being a gifted guitarist playing great blues ! I own about 8 or 10 of Joe`s albums in CDs and Vinyls, and 1 DVD, and I`ve seen him twice. The first time I saw him he saw my Rory Gallagher shirt(I was in the 2nd row side section), and jumped on top of a large speaker cabinet on the floor in front of the stage and started rippin` on Woke Up Dreaming and progressed into Rory`s Cradle Rock(pictures included{AND he`s even wearing his Cradle Rock shirt !}) and I was on cloud 9 for weeks and braggin` to all my Rory buddies worldwide. Then I got his Live From Nowhere In Particular album autographed and proudly displayed in my sterio room. Then I took my son to see him a second time and things were beginning to change some, but we enjoyed the show. Then little by little his site became a commercial marketplace and the suit became the norm for attire and I started drifting a bit. I still listen to him a bit and recognize his great talent, but I think he`s not as focused on the music as much as success these days. That takes away from what music means to me. I wish him much success, but my money is a hard earn for me and I`m no longer inclined to go see him, but will always remember doing so in the past. I drift away from most bands/musicians that command high ticket prices from the fans who made them what they`ve become, by buying anything and everything they`ve offered up. Most of the musicians that I follow, work hard and earn little money, and I admire them greatly for it. THAT IS THE BLUES !

I'd like to offer a slightly different take on Joe. Dana is not the only person I've heard refer to "pumping out albums of covers", but I don't think it accurately portrays his release career. Technically every album Joe has ever put out are cover albums... usually with a few Bonamassa originals in them. That changed with his last studio release Different Shades of Blue in 2014. Apart from the 80 second instrumental intro cover of Hendrix - Hey Baby (New Rising Sun), the entire album was new Joe B written songs.
Regarding his suit, I've always viewed the transition from jeans and a shirt to a suit as Joe growing up and accepting his place as one of the current faces of the blues. Blues history is loaded with well dressed guys like Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, etc.. and Joe is obviously very into preserving the memory and history of the blues through his charity Keeping the Blues Alive.
And although I love to hear him tear into Cradle Rock or The River as much as most, I also love the new face he's putting on old blues with his tribute tours. He surrounds himself with the best blues musicians on the planet (Reese Wynans, Anton Fig, and Michael Rhodes, etc...), and finds a way to make 50-70 year old songs exciting and new again.
Just my 2 cents.
Mike
